Thank you so much for your reply. I am not very IPOD savy and not sure of the exact name of his IPOD but it is an IPOD 30GB model #A1136 and it plays videos and photos and music too. Does that help any??? Should I try to get it repaired or just buy a new one?? Thanks for any and all help.

Hi,

the A1136 is an 5th or 5.5 Gen.iPod Video. Go to the "Repair" section of this page select iPod and than the correct model and take a look at the necessary steps to change the Display. If you are able to follow these steps, you should give it a try and repair the iPod yourself. Before you buy a new Display you should be sure, that the Display is the only damaged part.

Try to connect the iPod to a PC/Mac. If iTunes recognizes the iPod and lets you play audio and video files, the harddrive seems to be ok and the display is the only damaged part. Maybe the cable of the display just became loose and the iPod is "repaired" within minutes.

If the iPod is not recognized it seems, that the harddrive was also damaged. In this case the repair of the iPod would become more expensive and you should think about buying a new iPod.

So before you buy or repair anything, connect the iPod to iTunes and let us know what happend.

Also, as a heads up, iFixit has a relatively easy to use tool to identify your iPod, found at http://www.ifixit.com/Info/ID-your-iPod.
