I'm trying to update my G5 tower to the most current OS version, however, my tower will not boot from the disk. I was able to boot from this disk and update my laptop G4 and it worked fine. Can you tell me what could be the cause of this? The tower will read DVD's and CD's just fine.

If another Mac can boot from the disk, then you may have a drive that is going out.

Assuming of course that you are not trying to boot from a disk that has a version earlier than the computer shipped with. If so, it won't boot from that.

No the OSX version on the disk is the lastest OS version and the version on my tower is OSX that came with it. I have unplugged all of the USB items, I have plugged my laptop and tower together with a 6 pin to 6 pin cable, starting the laptop holding the T key down, inserting the disk into the laptop, starting the tower holding the option key and selecting the disk as the startup system, and nothing worked. The laptop works perfectly. I updated the OSX on it using the same disk and had no problems. But the disk just sat and spun with I tried the above scenario. Any ideas?
