I have an Ipod classic(160 GB). It has been malfunctioning for quite some time.

1. I never was able to stoer more than 35 gb og songs.

2. It frequently hangs up on the "pretext" 'Analyzing gapless playback information'

Immediate issue at hand is that the ipod says its corrupt.when i try to restore it, the message "Error 1434" pops up. wehn i try to erase through disk utility, posix error:input output error shows up. when i try to partition or verify, it simply doesn't finish.

when i tried diskutil and fdisk in terminal mode (MAC OSX 10.6.3 ), it doesn't complete and "error 5:input output error" is displayed.

I am trying to erase through zero out data, but estimated time shows 2 days 11 hours.

I cant conclude the hd is dead because i can otherwise access the ipod contents and also, access the ipod contents through explorer, though i am not able to copy anything into it.

Any, (ANYTHING at all) help would be appreciated.
