Do you get external video ?

Your right that might be it. Yes I do get external video.

If you replaced the lvds cable and the inverter board the other parts that can be checked are the inverter cable, the backlight lamp and the LCD screen itself. Do you see the desktop without light or the screen is totally black ?

I have a similar issue and wonder about the answer to this question: I do see the screen very dimly. Is this a sign the inverter board is bad? Hope so since I ordered one and it awaits installation. Thanks, in advance, for your help! Jim

Hi jsassman, did something happened to your machine before the screen failure (dropped the machine, hinches problem, liquid spill ?)

In your case the LVDS cable and the screen itself should be good so the problem could be the inverter cable (could be simply disconnected from the motherboard), the inverter board, the backlight bulb or the microfuse on the motherboard that protects the inverter circuitry.

Replaced the inverter board and now everything is fine. I did get external video when the LCD was not working.

I just had the inverter cable on my macbook but the screen is still dark. I get external video though, and I can just barely make out the display. Is it the backlight lamp? How do I fix that? Hoping something is just loose and that I wouldn't have to spend anything more...

Make sure the inverter cable connector is well seated in his socket. Could also be a bad inverter board. If the backlight is out you'll need a new screen cause replacing the backlight bulb is a pro job.

Not sure what you mean when you say you 'had teh inverter cable'? Did you have it replaced or replace it?

Replace the inverter board. Sounds like the same problem I had: dim, barely visible finder. Replaced mine and the Macbook works fine now.
