First thing to do is to lift up your ibook keyboard and check if the video connector is well seated in his socket. The connector is located near the ram slot.
Then, as chrisgreen63 says, connect the ibook on an external display to check the video graphic chip (problematic on many ibook G3). If you get video on the external display then the motherboard should be good.
If the video connector is well seated and if you get video on the external display then:
- the video cable is not well connected to the LCD panel or
- the video cable is faulty or
- the LCD panel is faulty
To check the connection to the LCD display, unscrew the 4 littles torx screws at the two sides of the ibook display, use a smooth plastic guitar pick to separate the LCD cover from the LCD assy beginning by the top part of the screen, take off 4 small philips screws from the sides off the LCD metal shield, take off the metal shield and you'll reach the video cable socket. Reseat the cable in the connector and boot the ibook to check if there's video acivity on the screen. If not, the cable or the LCD itself is faulty.
