powerbook issue boots to apple logo and spinning circle then dies

Reply by mikeh1972

I have just been given a powerbook G4.

I have managed to get it started after giving it a good charge however I now have the following issue.

The laptop Presumably Boots.

Apple logo comes up and a spinning circle type object below for approx 30 secs to a minute then it appears to stop. At that stage the computer "crashes" and thin broken horizontal lines appear across the screen.

I have been told it may be the hard drive or logic board.

Please can someone tell me in more detail

I am new to macs so please bare with me.

It is almost certainly the logic board. Hard drive problems would cause your computer to hang in one place, but logic board problems are typically what cause funky lines on the screen like that.
