Macbook Pro problem-overheated and screen is black now

Reply by patsoup78

I recently left my macbook pro on, and it was sitting on my bed for several hours. when I came back the screen was black like it was in sleep mode but it never came back. when i picked it up it was freaking hot. i removed the battery and powered it on again and the chime sound was very faint and the screen is black. and ideas on the problem? logic board? maybe al qaeda?

i hope i don't have to buy a new laptop!

i think the problem is you burned out the backlight for the screen or something along the line. If you leave it on the bed it could get to some 80+C and it will melt some components. Are you good at taking things apart? if you remove the top case you will get a better idea of what's going on. Maybe a burned out inverter, back light bulb, or cable. All this assuming that the computer is still functioning just not displaying. All of the problem above could be fixed with new parts at a much lower cost than a new laptop. However if the logic board, then it will cost you almost a new laptop to replace it.

Keep me updated thanks,

John
