Replaced iPod nano 1st gen LCD; still displays all white and hums

Reply by LambdaCalculus

I just replaced the bad LCD of a 1st gen iPod nano with a new one from iFixit. The old LCD was displaying only all white when hooked to a PC, and there was a quiet humming sound coming from the nano.

I replaced the LCD, but the same symptoms still show. I also can't get the nano to respond to the click wheel, and the hold switch is off when I attempt to use the click wheel.

I'm thinking that there may be something else wrong with the nano. Does anyone else have any ideas what could be the issue?

Have you tired to restore the iPod when you plug it back in. Often it needs to be restored to get the new parts working.

If it is showing the same symptoms as before even with restoring it probably means that the logic board is bad and you will need a new logic board.

As to the loss of functionality it is possible that some of the cables got slightly disconnected. When I have problems like this with the iPods I usually take it back apart and disconnect the reconnect all of the cables just to make sure they were making a good connection.
