HTC EVO 4G Glass Issues

Flag Reply by rab777hp

So there's been a lot of talk going on about issues with the Evo 4G glass shattering. There've also been some issues with the glass separating. What's interesting is engadget had a video of the glass being unscractchable, so it seems you have to drop it at a certain angle.

I've started this thread to discuss causes, solutions, and preventative measures about this issue. Please contribute to the discussion.

Well some fixes should be coming soon, maybe they'll have a replacement program.

same as everybody i read before, I dropped my evo and the left bottom corner broke and then other lines appear. seems to be common that the left corner will brake?? it still works, waiting to see if there are any other solutions other than paying $100.00 deductible.

same here. dropped phone. cracked dramatically. one-week old phone. would like to just replace the glass. hoping for a less than $100 solution.

My phone barely fell from 4 inches off the ground and shattered like ice... little pieces of glass everywhere.. every time I touch the phone I get glass in my hand... Seems like this is a huge issue.. Probably going to end up being a class action law suit or a recall.

I dropped my evo from like 3 feet with a $40 case on it and it shattered. I was $*&!&& about paying the $100 deductible but did it and resolved to be more careful. A week or two later I dropped it again from an even smaller distance and it shattered again. I refuse to pay a $100 deductible again when the @@#% phone works fine and all it needs is a cheap screen replacement.

I dropped HTC EVO today, bottom left side, and the screen shattered. The screen protector that sprint sold me when I purchased the phone is holding it together. I did have a body glove phone protector on the phone too when the screen cracked. It is clear that the bottom left corner is a weak point...

Dropped my EVO out of a car onto pavement. The car isn't that tall, it maybe fell 5 inches face down, and the screen completely shattered. Even bought a case and a screen protector. I've had this phone less than a month and the idea of paying another $100 for an obvious flaw sickens me. I called Sprint and said that I was reading about this and seeing it was a common problem and that I would be highly pressed to constantly keep paying $100 because it's so sensitive and the slightest bump might destroy it. I am glad though that I don't have glass falling out onto my hands...that is an obvious safety issue that HTC needs to address fairly quickly.

Maybe I'll get another one and wrap it in bubble wrap.

Same thing for me. After 2 wks with phone, EVO slipped out of pocket fell 3 feet. Left corner takes the hit and sends crack across screen. Sprint needs to address this immediately and get us all free replacement glass as well as fix an obvious design flaw.

Has anyone had any luck going to an independent cell phone repair place to change out the glass?

Just dropped mine a couple of days ago. Haven't reached out to Sprint to see about replacing, my husband got the insurance. I am not happy reading that this is an issue with the phone. Is there anymore news on this issue?

Well I am not a happy camper either. My fiancée and I were looking at a phone to upgrade for her and since we are getting married, decided to get on one plan (I was on T mobile originally and wish I still was now). Well, needless to say I have only had it for 3 days. I went into Best buy to get a case for it..walked out the door and as I was trying to get situated...phone slipped and landed on top left corner and you know the rest. Since I am still under the 30 days, can I return it to Radio Shack and get a new phone or do I need the insurance and pay the 100 dollar deductible? Sprint CS is a joke.

Ditto to everyone on these remarks. Same thing happened here. Don't know what to do. Everything on the phone works, even with broken glass. I do wonder however, how will I use the phone once my fingers are all cut up from the edges of glass. Hope someone somewhere will do something soon.

I dropped my phone today while exiting a vehicle. The screen shattered as well. I contacted Sprint and Htc and received similar response as perviously noted. I will do something. First, I want to say thank you for all the replys and I am truely sorry. I will send my complaint and a copy of all of reply to Sprint and HTC exec fax machines, a couple of thousand times. They will not be able to deny this problem any more.

+1 "just like ice" is very fitting. #3 in a single month? Im wondering about asurian's refurbished durability. pretty livid on this end

Yeah, seems like we all have the same issue. Maybe if we all call sprint. They will do something about it. The degree of the crack compared the the height it fell from, is just pitiful. I love my EVO but this is ridiculous

I already got sucked dry for the phone its self. I should not have to pay 100$ or more just to replace something that in all honesty wasn't. My fault. People will continue to drop phones, companies need to make them more durable.

This is ridiculous my phone dropped from a pocket, about 3 feet onto dirt,. somehow it landed kickstand leg first and that was enough to shatter the screen like ice- REPLACEMENT GLASS IS AVAILABLE and does look like something that a person who is familiar with electronics can fix themself

same problem with this cheap &$! glass, Not happy with sprint the way they are handling this flawed product. will not purchase another product of sprint unless they resolve this issue on there dime. Thats why I bought the finnnnnin insurance.

Dropped my evo 4g yesterday (6/24/11) from about one foot. had a rubber body glove on it. got a crack in upper left corner.just found this blog. Has any action been taken by sprint?. I've had my evo for a year & got one for my wife last month. Been sprint customer for over 13 years. May not make it to 14 if this prob is not rectified.

Also dropped mine a few days ago. Called Sprint and of course they say sorry its 100 bucks. R u kidding me. So I pay insurance on my account at 7 bucks per month. Really 84 dollars a year now they want another 100 and I've only had it for 2 months. Not to mention I've been a customer since 2006.
