Need help: iPhone white screen!!

Reply by aaliberti

I've just replaced the display of my iPhone using the ifixit tutorial. It's mechanically perfect, but the screen is all white when I switch it on.

Do you know what can it be? I already tried to reset the iPhone by pressing power and home buttons at the same time and restore it from iTunes, but still nothing.

Do you think it might a problem with the new display?

Note: the reason to replace the display is that the iPhone was dropped and the old display got some black regions.

Thank you!!

Hey.

I joined this forum because I had to tell someone about this as I think it is so unreal (but it is real). I had the same problem as you.

I had 2 iphones, one had a cracked digitizer(outer touch screen) but the LCD and the rest of the phone was working fine. The second had an intact digitizer but LCD was busted and the phone kept getting itunes deadly Error 28. I tried for weeks to sort out the error but no luck.

I gave up on the Error 28 phone so put the good Digitizer on the good phone. As soon as I turned on the once good phone it started flashing white and turned its self off. I restored in DFU and recovery I used all the old firmwares with all the old Itunes. Ireb, redsn0w, and more. but still it wouldn't reboot and got stuck on a white screen.

I really thought I had done something to the logic board or i forgot to turn it off before I took it apart and blew something. I though there was no hope. I spent days trying to revive it getting Itunes errors ranging from 3015 to 9.

It took me a while to think about what I did before the problem. I took off the Digitizer and put the broken one back on and WHAMMMMY. It worked like a charm first time.

I couldn't believe that the digitizer could have such an effect on the whole phone, the software and everything.

Sorry for the long reply I am just amazed at what was causing the problems.

A SUMMARY: IF YOU CHANGED YOUR SCREEN ANYTIME AND ARE NOW GETTING RESTORE ERRORS AND WHITE SCREEN PROBLEMS, CHANGE YOU DIGITIZER (or at least check contacts I think on contact 3).

I don't think this will work on all white screen errors but if you can do it try it.

Good luck and let me know if it works

somebody has to open the iPhone and replace the lcd. The cheapest way is to do it your self and you should get aways with around $70. The part is available on ebay. Here's a iPhone Repair guide on how to disassemble an iPhone on ifixit.com or http://www.portatronics.com/guide. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to pay to have a service do it for you

I have a 3G and after drop to the floor, I broke the glass (not LCD) and Home button.

A technician fixed it.

But one week later I was playing for one hour non stop and my screen turned all white.

Another guy opened the iphone and discovered that was a problem in Logic Board, in the part that generates video.

I'm selling my iphone for parts.

just fixed white scrteen on 2 phones with no new eipment

i have re tested this 5 times tonight.

if you get a white screen after new digitizer or lcd you will need to remove all the internal screws and lift bottom of mo/board so it leaves battery conector .

fitt the display cables again and replace screws . not easy but can be done.

it should now start up as normal.

cheers

What do you mean life the motherboard so it leave the battery connector?

Do you mean just disconnect and reconnect everything?

Reply reply by gareth

hi kirsti

yes disconect everything but you can get away with just lifting the bottome of the motherboard if you remove the lower screws.

thanks
