Sorry, but iMacs cannot have the video upgraded as it is built in to the logic board.

Yes, you can upgrade the card. All 24" models have had separate video cards, and all Aluminum 20" have removable / swappable video cards.. looks like its about $300 for just the card tho..

he also thinks there was a 24" imac G4, so go figure.

lol. you can upgrade the graphiccard of your imac. but it is not possible to put a normal graphiccard in it. you need a NOTEBOOK graphiccard with a mxm connector, which costs about 600$(if you find one) used on ebay. It is not possible to buy a card like that in a normal electronic store.

Good luck with that.

can you upgrade the "24-inch : 2.66GHz" GeForce 9400M card with an mxm card?

I am seeing conflicting messages. I am in a similar position of wanting to upgrade, if possible, but wonder where in California to get this done? Also, if this can be done it seems like a job for a professional rather than trying to install it myself. thoughts?

Sunrisetech, are you selling imac video card? I need a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512MB part no : 661-4664. Email me at applexchange@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Matthewfrey I too am looking for the correct video card for my iMac 24" (512MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 GS ) I believe what was sent to me was the GT and it looks like it should go into the Mac Pro not my iMac. Please e-mail me at bigdadtroy@yahoo.com should you have this card.

Sorry to hear that, but i've already bought the 27" imac. I found out it isn't really worth upgrading imac. You should sell it on ebay or even your imac and get the new quad core imac with 512mb video card.

iMac 24 video card can be replaced. I did it myself.

You guys can what I call upgrade from the 512 mb nvidia 880 gs to the reliable Ati 2600 pro with only 256 mb. I say upgrade because the ati card pops right in and only costs fro 90 to 200 dollars.Do a google search as I did. I bought two new cards from mac-pro for 197.00 each.

You can do the d.i.y. surgery if your warranty is done. Just a few words to the wise as many are making dumb statements about cards being soldered onboard. That is not true for the imac 24...3.06 and the 2.8 both of early 2008. Make sure you google your build date. Mine is early 2008 and I have the 2600 pro ati.

If you are nuts enough to want a replacement of the 8800gs for your 24 imac it can be bought for just over 300 dollars at "Service Parts" I googled that info for the unsure at heart...those who relish trashy cards

can I put my imac 20" early 2008 video card in to my 24" imac early 2008 also?
