I have a fully functional 1st Gen 8GB iPhone 2G, except I can't get any cel phone service, it just says: No Service.
It recognizes the SIM card when I install it and attempts to find the service. I went to Settings and General and Reset and Reset Network Settings and rebooted. Still no luck.
I should probably mention this now :) I had dropped it into a sink with some water, I panicked and opened it up immediately. Of course I watched videos on how to but unfortunately not from this site and I rushed to get the water out. I found that the water sensor was still white inside the case but the one inside the phone jack was red, so water didn't get to the main board as far as I can tell.
Phone service worked after I dropped it in the water. It stopped after I took it apart. I think I may have damaged the antenna or possibly something related to the antenna. My question is this:
what is required for the antenna to work properly, what grounds need to be connected with a screw and where? I know where the flexible antenna is located behind the black plastic cover and the two wires that connect to that, but there is also a piece from the silver back cover plate that connects to the antenna too, is this really necessary for the cel phone to work correctly? I accidently snapped off one of the brackets on the back cover plate that is one of the first 3 screws you encounter when taking off the back cover plate. Is that necessary, is there an antenna on there too?
Help.
