5th generation ipod

my girlfriends ipod was washed up by a wave at the beach but was picked up right away, so im sure not that much water got in. her ipod is recognized by the computer and the screen turns on, the problem is that the clickwheel and button dont do anything. is this a problem with the logic board or just the clickwheel? i cannot tell the difference. can anyone help me out?
