Water on keyboard of MacBook (Black)

Flag Reply by dacash May 3 @ 5:29 PM

My Fiancee was working with my macbook, and by accident she drop part of her glass of water on the lower left of the keyboard.

So when she got it to me, i turned it off, and left it to dry. 24 hours later, when i tried to turn in on, it starts and then looks like goes to Hibernate right away.

So i decided to take it apart and see if i could spot some water damage inside. After opening it, their was no trace of water, except on the connectors of the battery.

So i put it back together, and still does the same thing.

1. i hit power, it starts too boot and goes in Hibernate (No Chime).

2. if i hit power button when it goes to hibernate, it turns off, and then i hit power back then i hear chime and the screens shows the gray like normal, but only for 3 seconds at the most.

3. Then i can hear the hard drive work, and it's booting up. So i close the lid, and reopen, but won't turn on, so i hit power button then i see the login icons for a second or 2 and it goes back to hibernate.

So now, what could it be? i have searched high and low for something like this only to find 1 place that discussed a similar problem on the apple.com site support. but no one answered their problem :(

I'll be waiting to hear from someone with some hope :)

I had the same problem with a MacBook 2.0ghz Core2duo and the motherboard was faulty. I found a shop in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada to repair the motherboard for $200 CDN, now it's working great. My macbook had the same symptoms than yours but it worked well if connected to an external monitor. Also the battery was not detected by the computer and the isight web cam was not working. All these issues were repaired.

The Sleep switch is in the lower left area.. - You can open the unit an remove it.. see if the computer runs normally without it..

http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/MacBo...-Core-Duo-Battery-Connector/293/1

Step 13 shows the battery connector.. which is also the sleep / read switch for the macbook..

computer will run without it.. just wont be able to run off battery or sleep when closed.

Yes but during all the booting sequence the computer was always going to sleep and I had to push the space bar to allow it to wake up and continue the booting. I could only see the desktop for 2 or 3 seconds until it goes back to sleep showing a black screen. When I was connected to an external monitor the macbook was working as it should but the internal screen was off.

Well i don't understand how they can fix the logic board. I might just get a new logic board and give the macbook to my fiancee.

A new motherboard for the macbook is a very expensive purchase and you'll have to pay a tech to do the swap.

new logic board is $500 and i can do the swap.

might as well sell it for parts and buy a new one. $500.00 for a new logic board!!! you can sell your macbook for 250.00 for parts and spend less then $650.00 for a used macbook from apple in their refurbished section, usually sell for $619-800 for a 100% refurbished macbook and they have the option of getting a 3 year protection plan on it like it were new.
