Stripped screw on upper case of iBook G3 Clamshell 300 MHz; need to extract... how?

I am trying to help repair a friend's iBook G3 Clamshell by replacing the hard drive with a new 30GB drive. I had managed to get the keyboard, RAM shield, and the bottom screws off, but there's a badly stripped screw underneath the keyboard that needs to be removed in order to pull off the upper case of the iBook. It looks to be pretty bad, as well; the stripping is down deep.

I can't remove the screw, and I don't want to damage the upper case's plastic. Can anyone give me any advice on how to get the screw out?

If you can get it up a little, you can use tweezers to twist it out. If you can't get it up at all, sunrisetech is right, drill it out. However, if your just replacing a hard drive, you'll need to put it back in again, so it might be worth buying the iBook Clamshell Screw Set to replace it.

I'm also utterly halted on a stripped screw problem. I'm at Step 18 during hard drive replacement of http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Power...-G4-Aluminum-12-Inch-1-1-5-GHz-Hard-Drive-Replacement/548/6. The two Phillips screws holding the hard drive bracket will ~not~ budge, and I've stripped them pretty well during my various attempts to dislodge them. I'm currently suspecting Loctite. (And the project was going pretty well until now...) The screws are too close to flush to get a grip with pliers. I'm considering trying to file a slot in the heads of the screws with a needle file. What's involved with "drilling out" a screw? The hard drive bracket does need to be secured -- does drilling out leave the screw hole usable?

If you decide to drill it out remember you only want to remove the head of the screw. That will leave a portion of the screw to grab with pliers, but I would recommend a surgical Hemostat (clamp. If you suspect Loctite may have been used try pressing a soldering iron to the screw to melt the Loctite.
