Macbook A1181 (Not Charging)

Recently my AC adapter wire melted at the bass... and against better judgment I made an attempt at fixing this. Since this little excursion, either due to my meddling or the initial meltdown, this Macbook will no longer charge.

The battery is fine, it holds a charge and can be charged inside other Macbooks. My new powercord (though third party) is fine, it charges other Macbooks and keeps my own running.

I have replaced the Magsafe DC-In Board with no new results. Granted it is a used item that I installed, but was assured that it had been tested.

Now my fear may be that this is a Logic Board issue, but if that's the case, is it fixable without replacing it? And is it possible it may be something else? Are there any applications that can test my hardware?

Thanks,

IPod Touch 1G Home Button Contact

Hello All,

I recently replaced my Ipod Touch 1G bezel frame and digitizer. When re-assembling, I'm having trouble with my home button. Does anything go between the home button contact and the motherboard contact?

It doesn't seem like there is any "springiness" anymore, and the button does not function. It seems like something should give the home button some resistance when pushed. Does this exist?

Thanks

I have not tried myself but I see different prices for 3G and 3Gs replacement parts and the biggest difference is the LCD. I was just told that the 3G and 3Gs Lcd's and Digitizers are the same. is this true? I know the camera's are different and the logic boards but what about the rest of the goodies?

Using Fridge Magnets to keep loose screws in place

I'm in the process of replacing the DC in board in a 12" PowerBook G4. I tend to remove the screws for each step and place them in the proper spacial orientation on my desk. However with so many loose screws I thought there could be a better way in case I need to make room on my desk before I finish the surgery. Hence the idea of using business card fridge magnets to help. I place the screws head down on the brown "magnetic" side of the magnet still in the proper spacial orientation. I can now easily move the magnets without fear of messing up the spacial orientation. Further ideas would be to put mailing labels on this side to facilitate numbering multiple magnets (steps). One could also create a spacial grid or even a specific miniature image of the screw locations.

Mac Book Pro Gfx card problem?

Hi everyone,

I have a macbook pro late 2007 model(Core 2 Duo 2.4 SantaRosa).

I was working all morning on it and everything was geat..no crashes no nothing. So, I had it switched off for a couple of hours cause i left home. When I came back i switched it on but it didnt show anything on the screen however i can feel it is working as i get the mac sound when pressing the power on butttn and a few shortcuts work like the ctrl+option+apple+eject for shuting down works fine.It also recognizes my firewire sound card just fine and i get sound!!!By the way, the DVI display port doesnt work either when i connect a monitor!!

I tried with the power adapter on only , with the battery on only, with both on, i took out the memory and the battery and re-placed it but nothing different!!!!

So, is it that my Gfx card that has decided to stop working or is it something that i cant think and is very easy to fix??

Very desperate to sort it out as i have all my work in it and have to meet deadlines this month!!!

Thanks in advance

installing new 250 GB HD into iBook G4...

I`m getting a flashing question mark upon putting my new Western Digital HD into my 12" iBook G4. I`ve had it in & out now 3-4 times checking the connections to the same effect. My old 30 GB drive will work upon reinstalling it though. I was hoping to be able to start by doing the cloning process but my older Lacie 250 GB external HD dosen`t have matching pins in it`s connector for the iBook HD`s. My newer one, a Neil Poulton 500 GB one seems not to have screws & forcing the case it seems to be causing it to crack so I`ve left it alone. The iBook`s optical drive won`t allow anything to be put in (running a DVD around the opening there does seem to be something round there) but holding the eject button with the old HD functioning dosen`t seem to be ejecting anything nor does restarting holding the trackpad button. So I can`t load anything into the iBook this way. I have a Lacie firewire DL CD/DVD burner but can`t load anything with it either..I`m not even getting a cursor with the new HD loaded!? By the way the restraining bracket for the HD on mine dosen`t seem to fit with the new 250 GB HD so I`ve left it out..

I know the vibrate mechanism still works because my phone will still vibrate in games and whatnot, it's just not making contact to the vibrate switch.
iPod not outputting sound

Hi all. I have an iPod Video (5G) which stopped outputting sound recently. Everything on it seems to work fine - screen is great, syncs fine, seconds tick by as songs play. But it does not output sound to the headphone jack.

I noticed this a couple months ago. A few days later I got the idea to try it in my dock speakers and it worked fine, so I thought the problem must be the headphone jack, and said oh well since I have an iPhone anyway. Recently my interest was piqued again and I've since noticed that some days it outputs extremely distorted music through the headphone jack, on very occasional days it works fine, but most of the time it does not output through the jack. So I ordered a headphone replacement through here.

However I just noticed that it's not actually working through the dock connection either. So the problem is probably deeper. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Mac Book Pro 17" "No AirPort card installed" (wifi crash)

I've got a big problem with my airport card.

I've got a Mac Book Pro 17" 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Model Number: A1261) of 2008. My airport card worked very well till one day that I lost my connection unexpectedly. The only one message is: "Airport: Off" and "Turn Airport On" but although I try to turn it on the airport stays off. I've changed the card, thinking that was the problem, but isn't it. Now my Airpor work well at Mac startup and after a random time she goes off. When she's off the only way I can rekindle it is to restart the Mac.

I thought it can be a software problem and I've format my Mac several times with no results. The problem still the same.

Searching through internet I've found that there is a little card under the Airport card that can be the problem. With iFixit I've found the part and the guide to how to change it but before spending $100 I thought I'd ask here if it really can be the problem or not.

Do you have any ideas?

Do I need a new logic board?

I'm dealing with a friend's G4 933MHz iBook (Tiger OS). During the boot process it either freezes or advances to the Apple Logo and "spinning wheel" screen and then goes to a blue screen.

I connected it to my laptop in Target Disk Mode and ran Disk Utility. The HD tested OK. I could add or retrieve files without a problem. I also booted into the mode where you see only the command line. I did a check disk and again, no problems.

I have zapped the PRAM and reset the PMU. The latter step helped bring it along a little.

It will not start up off DiskWarrior or a Tiger OS Install Disk. In both cases it eventually freezes or goes to blue screen.

I'm not too wild about undertaking the 50-plus steps for swapping a logic board, but I would if I knew that would fix it.

2.5" 7200 RPM ATA mobile drives?

About year or a year and a half ago, the hard drive manufacturers stopped shipping 7200 RPM 2.5" ATA mobile drives. Now only a small number of manufacturers are still shipping 2.5" ATA mobile drives and only with 5400 RPM rotation speeds.

There is no shortage of 7200 RPM 2.5" mobile drives for the SATA interface but not for the ATA interface. Will the hard drive manufacturers ever bring back the 2.5" 7200 RPM mobile drives for the ATA interface?

iBook G4 shutdown with power adapter

This 1.2GHx G4 iBook works fine, except that if I unplug or plug in the power adapter while the computer is running or in sleep mode, it immediately shuts down. It will then not restart unless I either plug the power adapter back in, remove and reinstall the battery, or reset the PMU. Whichever way I restart it, the clock has gone back to some date decades ago.

I replaced the battery, and gained more life, but it still has the shut-down problem. I'm wondering if replacing the DC in-board would solve this, or if it is a deeper problem, like with the PMU.

pinouts from magsafe dc?

can anybody provide pinouts (dc voltages) from the 13" macbook unibody magsafe board, part number 820-2361-02. By this I mean I already know the voltages on the power connector, i am looking for the output voltages on the pins from the magsafe board in the plastic connector that attached to the logic board -- or any other way to figure out if the dc board is bad other than spending money on a new one I might not need.

4GB Memory upgrade problem

Macbook White 13" 2008 Dual core 2.2 GHZ. I am upgrading from 1GB to 4GB. I installed two new chips and at power on the dvd drive makes some noise, but it does not boot. I can switch to one of my old 512MB chips and a new 2GB and it boots with 2.5GB. Switching the 2GB memory makes no difference, they all boot. I even have a 3rd 2GB chip and no combination of 2GB works. But it seems just a combination of 512MB and 2GB works. I have two Kingston brand PC2-6400 and one Crucial PC2-6400. Help!!

Powerbook G4 coffe spill aftermath

Hello awhile ago I spilled a cup of coffee full of cream and sugar on my laptop. I wasn't able to stop the coffee from damaging the computer. At first numerous horizontal lines appeared zapping across the screen, and then the screen went almost entirely black. Now a few small horizontal lines continue to zap across the black screen on occasion. I'm able to still use the computer by plugging it into another monitor. My question is what part would it potentially be that is damaged, and could i replace it to restore the laptops proper function?

"Not Charging"

I have a mid-2007 Macbook that will not charge a battery. I have another Macbook to swap Magsafe adapters and batteries with. Here is what I have found.

1. When either Magsafe is plugged into bad system, there is a very dim green light and the menu bar shows that the computer is on AC power, but not charging.

2. Both Magsafes work normally on the other system.h

3. The good system can charge both batteries.

4. The bad system recognizes the battery and displays the level of charge.

5. I have reset the PMU, and NVRAM

At this point I am thinking DC-In board. Does anyone agree or have any other suggestions?

How to Program and Use iPhone 3G LCD?

I like working with microcontrollers such as those in the Arduino platform. Now that I've replaced the entire display assembly of an iPhone 3G with a IF137-008-1, I'm left with a perfectly good LCD unit that the customer won't want. Is there a datasheet for the LCD and perhaps even a development type PCB that I can plug it into and play with?

For example can I set this up so an Arduino Mega can send a jpg photo to the LCD with some nice caption text?

Thanks

iBook G4 1.2 Ghz won't boot.

Hi;

Inherited a G4 iBook from my future grand-son-in-law, who seems to treat his stuff rather cavalierly. I get a nice start-up chime, then just after the apple logo comes up, before the busy circle appears, it stops with this message, (whether I boot OS or 'command-S')

Error: Extension archive doesn't contain software for this computer's CPU type.

Error: Couldn't unpack multi-extension archive.

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x002E54BC): Unable to find driver for this platform:"PowerBook6,5".

There's about 25 lines of text, ending with:

panic: We are hanging here... but it won't accept keystrokes, either.

Unfortunately it also has one of those garbage slot-loading optical drives with flaky mechanicals, (with an OS 10.3 disc stuck in it, which it won't boot into.)

Does anybody have any idea what's going on? I'm thinking ROM got corrupted somehow...?

iBook G4 Heatsink Pads

Hi folks - a little advice required; I have just had my iBook G4 1.33ghz logic board back after repair - the display chip had to be re-soldered following the classic blue screen failure. I'm putting the board back in but wondered if I should replace the three thermal pads on the heat-sink? Two of the pads are a grey putty-like material while the other - the one that actually sits on the CPU appears slightly thinner and seems to have a meshed woven material in it? question is do I need to change the pads or can I get away with leaving the original in place?

Do I Need Sim Card In iPhone 3G To Unlock Screen?

I just replaced the entire display assembly on an iPhone 3G with an IF137-008-1 iPhone 3G Display Assembly. The sim card for the phone is being held by the owner. When I turned on the phone to check that all is well, the display turns on fine but there is a message "No SIM card installed" and I cannot operate the slider to unlock the display. Likewise, I am unable to power off the phone by holding in the power button and then using the screen slider.

So my question is, is this normal? Will installing the sim card restore the screen? Or, did I make a mistake with one or more of the connections with the 3 small cables?

Is there a way to power off the phone until I can meet with the owner and test it with the sim card?

Thanks!

iPhone 3G stuck in headphone mode

Can anyone help. The routine fixes have all failed, i.e. plug/unplug headphone, can of air, plug in headphones and start iTunes then unplug etc. None of that worked so I replaced the entire headphone jack assembly. Still no speaker/mic. The phone only works with headphones or using the speaker phone.

What next? Is there a specific part of the mother board that needs cleaning or another wire that needs replacing?

Thanks.

iPhone 3GS dock assembly

Hi all,

I'm in need of this piece: http://s2.guide-images.ifixit.com/igi/xFXHEP63nrE3TVXO.l...

Anyone know where I can get my hands on the full assembly? I see places where they just sell the actual dock connection, but I'm in need of the entire dock assembly [mic, compass, speaker etc (as seen in the pic)].

Many thanks!

In return, I can answer any questions regarding iPhone repairs; it's my job.

keyboard connector iBook G4 1.07 Ggh PowerPC

I have an iBook G4 which used to be 800Mhz and I have upgraded it to the 1.07Ghz by replacing the old dead logic board with the new one.

Everything worked fine, but unfortunately I think the logic board which I have installed is from the 14" iBook so the keyboard connector from the keyboard that I have does not fit into the socket.

Any idea where I can find a keyboard connector only that would fit the logic board which is identified by 820-1606-A?

Can I install this connector on the keyboard cable from 12" mac?

I have a couple of pictures of the logic-board socket and keyboard connector but unfortunately it is not possible to attach them here.

Sincerely

Problems with battery and screen after disassembly-assembly of MBP2007. Please help!

Hello,

I changedheat sensors and fans of my MBP2007, which meant taking it apart - removing logic board etc..

I didn't have any additional thermal paste, so I used what was already there (looked enough), apart from that everything went smoothly..

BUT! Now the screen of my MBP has some whitish or yellowish tint and can't work at it's normal resolution (some vertical stripes, like vertical interlacing prevent me from seeing anything clearly). Everything's fine on the external monitor though...

Also the battery sign in OSX says, there's no battery (the battery is brand new), MBP won't turn on without power adapter connected as well.

Please tell me, what could I have done wrong? Or what can I do to help you finding me the problem?

Water-Sugar Damage HELP!!!!

I own a black macbook with the 2.16. My daughter dropped a freezie on the keyboard. I cleaned it with an alcohol wipe and the keyboard died. Track pad still works. Charger won't. Intermittent restarts and long beeps.

Day One - Took it to the Mac Store. They told me it was a faulty logic board...$640.00 plus $105.00 diagnostic. Left immediately.

Day Two - Put it on a shelf upside down...waiting...

Day Three - rebooted - keyboard is working again..sort of...still no charging to battery but little green light is on now.

Day Four - What to do next? I want to dismantle the keyboard and clean is with isopropyl alcohol and see if that works. Any suggestions? Oh yeah...upgraded to a 320 gig HD. If I can fix it, I will install a 500 gig.
