Murray riding lawn mowers are produced by Murray, which was originally owned by the bicycle and lawn and garden equipment manufacturer Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company. Eventually the gasoline engine manufacturer and American Fortune 1000 company, Briggs & Stratton Corporation, bought the brand in 2004. Briggs & Stratton launched in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1908, and now produces all sorts of engines commonly found in lawnmowers, pressure washers, karts, electrical generators, etc.
Murray products are mainly catered to the gardening and lawn care markets. Murray products include push mowers, riding mowers, zero turn mowers, and other various gardening tools.
Murray riding mowers are typically equipped with a Briggs & Stratton engine made specifically for lawn mowing devices. Most Murray riding mowers can be found at Walmart, and as of 2020, the most recent models that can be found are the 30” Rear Engine Rider, 38” Riding Mower, and the 42” Riding Mower. The Murray riding mower is no different than the average lawn mower in terms of speed, with most models ranging from six to eight miles per hour.
In the past, a few Murray models were recalled for various reasons. Some of the models were defective, which presented a danger to the public and was prone to be a fire hazard. Murray lawn mowers are relatively inexpensive compared to competing models and are suitable for lawn care.
