My Problem

My 2004 iMac G5 1.8GHz machine came on for a moment, then went off. What the ???? Did a search on the net (with my trusty MacBook Pro) and found that this was a common problem with iMac power supplies. Hmmm. Where to get a replacement power supply, I ruminated to myself silently. iFixit! Yep, the reason that I even decided to do this job myself was because I watched the video of the young lady replacing the power supply in an identical iMac. She had it fixed in no time.

My Fix

No joke - From the time I got the iFixit replacement power supply out of the mail box till the time I was back to surfing the web on the iMac was 17 minutes. Could not have been easier. The video of your tech replacing the PS was spot on. I found that the spudger was a handy device.

My Advice

As with any computer repair, remember to unplug the computer from power and place the palm of one hand on the computer chassis as you work, especially in dry and arid locations as the static monster can come and ruin your day before you know it.

My Problem

iMac G5 20" notoriously bad power supply gave it up...for the second time in 10 years! It is actually just my backup computer these days...I have a much newer Mac I use daily.

My Fix

Easy repair when following the ifixit guides!

My Advice

Use the "cone of silence" so the competition doesn't get better than ifixit!

My Problem

This was my first Mac.... and have grown to love, love, love my Macs (now at 5) and after moving a couple of times, I finally was in a position to make a new home for my 20" iMac (1.8 GHz). I went to turn it on, and it came on momentarily, then just shut itself off... I was devastated until I found the iFixit website and was able to diagnose the problem myself - needed a new "heart" - aka Power Supply.

My Fix

The directions were amazing! I was able to do this with only my boyfriend lending some strongarm assistance when we were trying to get the Power Supply put back in place... Previous posts were correct in that it takes some prying on the bottom frame of the iMac to get the Power Supply past the set screw that does not come out... The heavy duty Spudger that I ordered proved itself invaluable!

My Advice

AWESOME place to find parts!!! Highly recommend!

My Problem

Computer wouldn't start up. Did diagnostics which pointed to bad power supply. Tried over and over, but kept shutting down after a few seconds or wouldn't start up at all.

My Fix

Replaced the old power supply with the new and computer started right up...and ran for about 5 minutes! Restarted. Same results. Tried it over and over. Same results. Runs for 2 to 5 minutes, then shuts down. Removed new power supply and replaced it with the old (defective) power supply. Started right up and has run ever since (about 20 hours). I actually have 2 of these computers. I replaced the power supply on the other one last year with no complications. Your replacement and posted instructions worked perfectly.

My Advice

Repair was very simple. I followed the instructions you provide on the web site. Can't explain what happened.
