Only boots sometimes but I can always hear the start up chime.

Hi,

I have a mid 2007 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo macbook and for the past year or so I try to only shut it down if really necessary because it does boot up 100% of the time. In fact, I would say it only boots up 1/5 times. I still hear the start up chime and fans running but I get a black screen. After enough restarts the computer eventually boots up and everything is fine. But I have noticed a couple of times that it starts up but my screen gets divided into 2 unequal quadrants with the screen flickering rapidly.

I have tried to contact Apple but of course with no apple care they don't tell you anything and I have asked some of my more computer savvy friends and they dont seem to have much of an idea either.

Has anyone had the same problem or have any ideas?

Thanks,

Daniel

Connect to an external monitor if you see the same behavior it's your VGC(VPU) and you'll need a new logic board. If you don't see the same behavior it could be the inverter board, or the LCD itself.

Yeah I went to the Apple store today just to see what they would say and they say it's the logic board as well. I guess it's basically not even worth fixing. I'm just worried that one day this computer won't start at all. Is that a possibility or can I continue to just continue to use it and try not to shut it down as much as possible.

Thanks!
