Why would my home button not work after replacement?

I replaced my home dock connecter, LCD and home button. After putting it all back together, my home button didn't work. I took the phone back apart, and tried to reseat the ribbon cable. This didn't help, so I ordered a new home button (2nd new one), and when I received it I replaced it again. The home button still does not work. Is there a secret I am missing?
The dock connecter and LCD seem to be working fine, only the home button is malfunctioning.
