replaced pram and date is still not being retained
buddy got a powerbook g4 and wanted me to fix it up. I told him its super old he told me fix it anyway so... when turning it on I noticed that it would not keep time nor wireless settings. Obviously, this is the cmos battery or pram. I replaced it and still same thing. Any suggestions?

Don't know what you replaced but I doubt it was a PRAM battery, unless the machine is a 15" or 17" model. Like the original iBook the 12" G4 powerbooks didn't have a PRAM battery.
These machines, just like G3 and G4 iBooks use power from the main battery and a capacitor on the logic board to maintain the clock.
No matter your model in the System Preferences under date and time click the checkbox next to "Set Automagically" and pick a nearby timeserver. In the same place under Airport check the box(s) for "Remember Network" and "Automagically Join"

was a 15in model thanks for fast reply. So its the main battery that does it what is the pram battery good for then lol.
the pram does retain the memory for the date and other settings it is a 15" and I purchased the pram from here so I know its good cause when putting it on I can feel the current.
