What alcoholic solution loosens the glue of the batterys?

History

Did you test the glue of the batterys with alcoholic solutions like 2-propanol?

It would be interesting to know if fooding the battery section with an alcoholic solution will loosen the glue. The solution has to solute the glue, but not react with the plastic casing of the batterys.

Apple's technicians have been told that the battery is not a replaceable part. Their solution is to replace the top case assembly, to which the battery is fixed.

If a chemical engineer were to analyse the adhesive and discover a solution that would not be exothermic I would consider using it.

IMnsHO encouraging a DIY to attempt this proces by experimentation with various solvents would be on the order of encouraging an amateur to work on a CRT--irresponsible and unprofessional.

There are definitely safety considerations to be made before testing this procedure. But I intended my question for the ifixit team or others who are in possession of an already dismantled device and have so direct access to the glue on the body of the MBP. So the test could be safely be preformed by using q-tips and exposing the battery coating to very smal quantities of solvent. Never I would encourage someone to flood a battery bay with a unested solvent.

Chester,

The is site is maintained via a volunteer help iFixit views this as a Wiki; they are not the only ones managing it or posting. The lack of technical background/commonsense many coming to this site posses can be exemplified by questions regarding liquid spills. The number of people who do not take even the simplest precaution of disconnecting power, but continued to use their device until it stopped working, should point out their basic lack of safety procedures. Hence my reference to CRT repair... there is no shortage of DIYrs who are clueless about the most basic potential dangers they could encounter. A less dangerous question might be Does anyone know of a solution to dissolve the adhesive? and omit making any suggestions for trial and error.
