Why wont my screen turn on ( after cutting the volume wire)

Whilst i was replacing my screen I accidentally cut the wire that connects the volume buttons to the flex cable. Could this be the reason why my screen is unresponsive?- I don't even get the white screen

I know that my ipod works fine as i can plug it into charge and it syncs when its connected to the computer. Also I can still hold down the home button and the voice control still works. However the power power button doesn't seem to work

If I get the entire flex cable replaced will my screen work after this? I am sure that it is not a faulty screen and that i have assembled it correctly
