Can I add ONE 4gb instead of 2x2gb?

Hello everyone,

I'l looking to upgrade my MacMini A1283 from 2GB Ram to 4.

At the moment I have 2x1gb and I am not sure if I should buy ONE 4gb (and have one slot empty) or 2x2GB?

Is ONE 4GB on one slot supported?
