Screen is/went black, backlight is functional, startup normal
I woke up this morning turned my computer on and went to watch an episode of Charlie Rose. The browser froze when I was loading a youtube video along with the charlierose episode. I reset the laptop and the screen flickered then went black. It started to boot normally with grey screen, went into the other room to get a cup of coffee and now the screen is black. The back light is functional and I can dim it and turn it back on, I hear skype loading at startup and I was able to turn on the blind assist option but the screen is still black (with blacklight on). Could this be a loose screen connection? Any ideas?
Also if it helps the macbook pro is around two years old.
***Update*** So today went to boot for a hardware test. When I woke up my laptop from sleep mode, the screen came back on and worked for 30 seconds, then started flickering on and off then went back to black with backlight still working. Still works with external monitor. Any ideas of what this could be? The type of screen flashing seemed like it was a loose connection of some sort, but I am really not sure. Any ideas?

Good news - external display working says all is well with VGC(VPU) and points to connections with or the display itself. Try booting to your Hardware test or install disk. If the problem goes away it's a corrupt file on the HD. If it doesn't, we're back to the LCD. Since the backlight works sounds like the inverter and cables are ok... which would mean you'd need to replace the LCD.
