My iPod touch is not charging.

I have an ipod touch 2nd gen, bought aug 2010. It's not charging, tried different usb port. It was <20%, charged it through pc, the battery icon came with a "plug" sign, i can still use it while charging but no additional charge on battery's percentage or it's not charging. The battery icon with a volt sign never appear. Itunes can recognize the device. Can someone pls hel me with this, thanks!
Have you tried a AC adapter?
