screen and charging port

History

so i have a iPhone 4 that i bought from ebay. i knew it needed fixing. when i got it and i plugged it to charge the screen wouldn't light up so i changed it with a screen i have now the screen looks weird but it powers up its sort of whitish and it gets the logo up and going i gotten to where it asks for a pass code , i unplugged it and it wouldn't turn on so it only works if its connected to an outlet. what could it be. it doesn't appear to be water damage. should i change the charging port on the iPhone?!

I would change the battery first, clean the contacts. After that, if it still should not work, replace the dock connector. As for the screen looking weird, an image posted with your question could prove to be very helpful.

i did change the battery and that how it turned on, as far as cleaning the dock how do i go about doing that i don't want to damage it if it is not the problem
