iPod wont charge or turn on

Okay so my sisters iPod touch wont turn on. I've tried charging it and the apple sign comes up for less then 2 minutes and then disappears and I've tried turning it on, resetting it and tried syncing it. I plug it into the computer using the USB port (and I've tried all the USB ports on her computer) and it doesn't connect at all. The apple sign appears on the device but it doesn't connect. There is no connection error, it doesn't appear under devices. I tried the troubleshooting on apple and that didn't work and I've googled the situation and there isn't anything that is like what is happeing to this iPod. If you have any ideas or tips or anything at all that could help it would be greatly appreciated. Any questions just ask. Thank you! And nothing has been spilt on it and iTunes is up to date.
You say it does not turn on, yet you are plugging it into your computer. Does it turn on when you plug it into the USB port? Neither iTunes, nor your computer, will recognize an iPod that does not turn on. So please clarify if it turns on or not. Thanks.

It gets the apple sign when its plugged in but it doesn't fully turn on, it only gets the symbol and then it goes away.

Have you tried an AC adapter? Tried to place it in DFU?
