How to transfer iPhone contacts to my PC without iTunes?

History

Hi, I have an iPhone 4S and I use Exchange server account to sync my iPhone contacts with Google.

I would also like to transfer my iPhone contacts to my computer (as a sort of an offline backup copy). I would rather not to use iTunes sync as it already deleted my old iPhone contacts once when I tried to transfer them to my Windows XP computer.

How is that possible?

Hugo,

Here are two methods (iCloud, Gmail):

From google (gmail)

You can quickly export your Gmail Contacts list into a CSV file. Here's how:

1 Sign in to Gmail.

2 Click Gmail at the top-left corner of your Gmail page, then choose Contacts.

3 From the More actions drop-down menu, select Export....

4 Choose whether to export all contacts or only one group.

5 Select the format in which you'd like to export your contacts' information. Please note, some of these formats can lose some contact information.

-- To transfer contacts between Google accounts, use the Google CSV format. This is the recommended way to back up your Google Contacts.

-- To transfer contacts to Outlook, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, or various other apps, use the Outlook CSV format.

-- To transfer contacts to Apple Address Book, use the vCard format.

6 Click Export.

7 Choose Save to Disk then click OK.

8 Select a location to save your file, and click OK.

iCloud

1 Turn on iCloud and it will backup your contacts to iCloud.

2 Log in to iCloud

3 Select Contact

4 In the lower left hand corner of the contacts screen is the "Show Actions Menu" button. Click it.

5 Choose Export vCard

I think it is possible to use the iCloud module on your PC (this is the iCloud app for your computer), then connect your old iPhone to your computer and use the iCloud program to backup your iPhone contacts. If you are on a Mac, it is much easier - you can back up your old iPhone contacts directly with the Mac Address Book (no iTunes required).

There is also solution about how to transfer iPhone contacts to PC, that will work for backup iPhone contact to computer well.

It worked extremely well.

Backing up iPhone contacts is not a matter of concern anymore. Since iOS 5 you can store your iPhone address book directly to the iCloud. Not feel comfortable with the use of iCloud? You can also third-party-programs to keep a copy of the iPhone contacts on the PC: http://youtu.be/gkEJils3oeE

I would advise you to transfer your iPhone contacts in a vCard format instead of *.csv since there is some contact information such as contact photo lost if you export to *.csv.

To export your iphone cotnacts to vcard to your PC use your iCloud account or a third party app designed to export/import your iphone contacts such as copytrans Contacts.

If you have MS Outlook on your PC all you have to do is sync your exchange mail. All contacts that are on your Exchange account should sync to the contacts in Outlook. From there you can export to which ever format suits you.

If you need more info on setting up exchange on Outlook let me know
