Why is my screen slowly whitening?

My iPod Nano (5th gen) was stepped on several times and the screen was slightly damaged now almost the whole screen is white, it (what ever it is) is spreading throughout the screen. I don't want to get a new one because it has a lot of song that my iTunes wont be able to sync onto other devices. So what should I do? Help please!
