My MacBook burned last night! Burning Smell please advise?
I have already looked over some of your guides. AWESOME work here. I took my MACbook Pro 17" 2006 1151 to the Genius Bar today in Southlake, Texas. They tell me because it is now considered to be a vintage machine that they will not repair it. A year ago they sent it off twice to have the logic board replaced. Last night it went out with a burning smell. I believe it has to do with the magsafe board. Not for sure. I see that there is one on here for $99. An independent Apple repair place told me that it was not worth putting any more money into it. I am devastated. I cannot begin to even think about buying a new one and I can't imagine living without the one that I have. Symptoms right before it happened was that it was getting really hot around the battery, then the battery needed to be charged, I plug it in and it indicated that it was already fully charged. I smell a burning smell and screen went black, Mac died and will not come on at all now. Does anyone have anything positive to say about the chances of me bringing my MacBook back to life?
Need a little bit more here: Can you give us the last four digits of your serial number. And, if you take out the battery with the magsafe charger plugged in will the system start? Does the LED on the plug light? With the battery out does the battery test show the battery is charged?
Dan,
