My iPhone 3G does not turn on. How can I fix it?

My Iphone cannot turn on at all without being plugged into its charger. When I plug it into its charger, it begins to start up and begins to turn on, with nothing but the apple sign on the screen. After about 10 seconds, the screen goes dark, but the apple sign is still on the screen, although hard to see. A couple of seconds later, my iphone fully turns off. Does anyone have the same problem as me or a solution to this problem?
