How to mirror whats on my iMac display to my hdtv

okay i understand the normal way of doing this but my iMac does not give me the option to do so under displays no option to mirror when hooked up to my 42 inch tv but when hooked up to 22 inch model same brand tv and everything it works no problems.

any suggestions would be great.

imac 21.5 inch core i3 3.06ghx 8gb ram 500gb hd. magic mouse and old g5 keyboard. rocket fish mini dp to hdmi adapter being used with standard hdmi cable.

Does it not show any video at all or does it just extend your iMac's desktop to the 42" TV?

You might try using the keyboard command instead, which can vary. Typically cmd+F1 will work.

Have you tried a different HDMI port on the TV? You may also need to alter the TV's settings, don't forget 1040i and 1040p are different! I don't think you can connect to a 1040p TV. I have a Apple adapter & cable connecting to my 46" 1040i Sony to my 17" MacBook Pro with no problem.
