What are the last 3 digits of your serial number? I have put 1 TB drives in MacBooks and MacBook Pros dating back to January 2006 and had never had any problems. I install Western Digital blue and black hard drives. I have never heard of any capacity cap on the logic board for intel MacBook Pros. You could even put n OptiBay in and have 2 x 1 TB hard drives. I would make sure that the hard drive is compatible with a standard SATA connector, is a 2.5 in drive, and is not taller than 9mm. You will also need to format the drive for OSX and install an operating system on it. Tell us what you are thinking about getting and I can tell you if it will work.
Hope this Helps.

Your system is: Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.26Ghz 13" (MB990LL/A)
Here's the guide page for this system: MacBook Pro 13" Core Duo, mid 2009
You should not have any problems with the WD 1TB HD your system can support a 9.5mm drive
