MacBook Pro 5,2 17in mid-2009, won't run without a/c power adapter
hi all, i am hoping someone can shed some light on what this issue could be.
as the title states, my mbp doesn't like it when it is not connected to the power adapter. for example, without being plugged in, i will attempt to power it on, and it promptly shuts off. i can try this over and over again with the same results. sometimes, it will actually get as far as loading the OS and my desktop before shutting off. now, if i have it plugged into the power adapter, i may experience the same results, but after a few attempts, it will remain powered on and load the OS and run with out issues for hours. at this point, if i were to unplug it from the power adapter it will shut off within about 10 seconds.
i have been experiencing this issue for a few months now. i've owned the machine since about 12/2009. knowing that the mbp is always plugged into the power adapter i thought that i may have killed the battery since it never has a chance to discharge/recha
prior to receiving the new battery, i have ran the stand alone notebook battery and power adapter tests, as well as the ASD 3S132 for EFI and OS tests. everything passed and the diagnostics did not come back with any faulty components. i have also reset the SMC and PRAM a few times. so even with a new battery, i get the same issue.
does anyone have any ideas as to is going on with this machine?
thanks in advance.
