6 gb ram not working...

History

I ordered the 2 and 4 gb ram upgrades for my iMac mid 2007, but the machine will not run with both installed. It will run with the 4 and an original 1gb chip or a 1 and the 2, but not all 6. I ordered them after reading that it would take 6, but I'm unconvinced. Please help.

You could have up to 8 GB RAM in the correct form depending upon your exact machine. Ensure the RAM is fully seated, try switching the slots they go in... if the RAM is substandard that could be your problem (RAM has been known to fail straight out of the box).

Try swapping the slots. What I mean is, take out the 4gig RAM from whichever slot it is in, and put the 2gig RAM in that same slot. Now put your 4gig RAM in the slot that your 2gig RAM was originally in. I believe the trick to make this work has everything to do with the slot that it is in. I can't remember if it's the left slot or the right slot, but I think only one of them will recognize that 4gig RAM.
