Camera Shutter won't open

History

A few months back my phone fell in the toilet. After having a few days in rice everything was working except my rear camera and flash. When I open the camera app the shutter just stays closed when it's on back view. Takes pictures perfectly fine with front camera (no issues with FaceTime either).

Insurance deductible is more than I'm really wanting to spend so I was looking at just replacing the camera but Im wondering if this will actually fix the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Most phones that i have worked on have had removable cameras. Sounds like water may have gotten in the camera assembly or not allowing the phone to make connection.

note: go with the insurance. This phone fell in the toilet. ewww. This is the same phone you keep by your mouth and ears? icky....

Brittany, it is very likely that this error is strictly caused by the camera. After all, it is the only thing that is not working. I would disassemble the phone, clean it properly. Use this guide for the cleaning. It was written for a 3G, but everything still applies to your phone. Rice is a great first aid, but it is not a permanent fix, nor will it prevent corrosion etc. After that, check your connectors and your cables carefully. Make sure they are not torn, bend or corroded. You can now also replace the camera, by using this guide. I am sure it is a lot cheaper than your deductible, and there are a lot of worse places your phone could have fallen into. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thank you. That's what I'll do. I cleaned the outside of the phone so I wasn't worried about that part. Plus it was a "clean" toilet :) Thanks again for your help!
