iPhone 3GS no touch response?

I smashed my iphone about a week ago after forgetting it on the roof of my car before driving off. The screen and digitizer were completely broken, but thankfully I had a separate screen and digitizer that I could replace it with. After the replacement, everything booted up correctly, but once the lockscreen loaded (jailbroken) I noticed that the iPhone wouldn't respond to touch. Home button and power button work, volume buttons are responsive on the screen, still vibrates. The only thing that seemed to be wrong was the touch response.

So I went out and bought another iPhone 3GS off craigslist. I took the sim card and green hardware piece out of my smashed iphone and put them into the new one. Same problem. That leads me to believe the problem lies within the green hardware piece, not the screen.

Is there anything I can do at this point to access my phone? I have no problem using the new phone I just purchased, but I really want to read some unread text messages and listen to some voicemails before switching over the simcard and losing them. Also, I've downloaded WinSCP and DiskAid already to pull the texts and voicemails off the phone and onto the computer, but neither program nor this computer will recognize my iphone. It charges through the computer, but once charged to 5 percent, wont charge any more and eventually dies and repeats the cycle. The other problem I have on WinSCP is that without gaining access to the settings on the iPhone, I cant figure out what the IP address is. -_-

Any advice? Can I take the adaptors for connectors 1, 2, and 3 off the green hardware piece and replace them with adaptors on the piece from the new phone?
