grace, first, if your phone does not come on, your computer willnot recognize it. Second, have you tried to charge it on a AC adapter. Also, clean the &#%% connector, make sure that it does not have bend, corroded or broken pins. Clean the inside of the connector with some isopropyl alcohol and/or a small puff of compressed air. Once you have it cleaned and it still won't charge etc., it is very possible that your battery is either to discharged to be charged on a USB port. Or, it is past its lifespan and does not hold, or accept, a charge. I would start by replacing the battery. Here is the guide for it. The battery is available at places like this and many others.
