No power after dock connector replacing dock connector

Yikes. Think I killed my phone. Was having trouble with it not recognizing my charger after water damage but charging verrrrrrry slowly. Attempted replacing the dock connector tonight very carefully & what seemed to be appropriately but now the phone has absolutely NO power. :( help!
welovesnow, you cleaned the phone well? You changed the battery?

Thanks so much for your advice. I left the phone charging all night and the phone now works (hooray!) but have the same charge error & slow charge. Will plan to clean the phone next, sounds like you were right, just so nervous to do it!
