Small gold part left - battery replace

I followed the guide for replacing the battery on the 4s. However, after I had the battery successfully in my hand I noticed a small gold part loose in the bottom of the battery tray. I have looked in all the guides I can find but I do not see it mentioned and I do not see it in photos. I was not rough when taking out the battery and I am pretty sure I did not break anything but I can not see where the piece goes.

Any ideas? The piece is gold on one side, black on the other. There is a hole through it, so I assume that one of the battery contact screws goes through there. There is also a small sprung contact arm coming off the back.

Yes that seems to fit. I was amazed that I saw no mention or warning in the guides that such a piece existed. It gave me quite a shock. I thought I had ripped something out by mistake.

All is well, except that my wife's iPhone is still a water damaged wreck. Waiting for a new battery...

Does it look like this? It is most likely the piece held down by the screw highlighted in orange in step 4 of the 4S Display Assembly guide.

Shelley is right. I think the piece you're referring to is the pressure contact located on top of the battery connector.

Had the same problem and @Shelley's advice worked for me too. Was going nuts for a second there.

I had this problem as well, and wasn't able to re-install it. I went forward without it, and the phone seems to work fine, but I no longer have a signal strength indicator. It just says "searching" all the time, but works fine otherwise.

That is because your date and time is probably not set correctly. When you do set it correctly you'll need to either turn the phone off and on, turn airplane mode off an on or take the sim card out and put it back in.

Also that part is needed sometimes if your phone becomes stuck in a bootloop after trying a new battery.
