First of all, thank you Mayer. I'm deleted my question and your answer by accident. So I'll repeat my question. My mac shutdown and restarted about four times before shutting down for good. Mr. Mayer you mention that my power supply may defective. If I follow the iMac Intel 20" EMC 2118 guide what step will show me the lights? I have an iMac Late 2006 Intel Core 2 Duo Tiger 10.4.11.

You're right my question is confusing. I plugged in my iMac today. The light on the bottom didn't come on. No sounds either. No response when pressing power button. Where are these diagnostic lights? Are they on the logic board? My question of "what step will show me the lights" I was referring to the Step - By - Step Guide for the model A1207 with the 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo. Also, I want to upgrade my Tiger 10.4.11 to snow Leopard 10.6.8. Is that possible and how do I do that? Thanks.

Your diagnostic lights should work after you replace the power supply. I'm not real sure if I understand the question.

I'm buying a 2007 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac 20" from eBay and it has SAME problem. The seller reports that after 5 times on/off, the unit won't power up at all.

I've looked at iFixIt's repair instructions for power supply and for a newbie, it seems pretty steep on the learning curve.

My question here is: If it isn't the power supply, what could it be? I'm trying to pay no more than the computer is worth including repair. New power supply is about $100-140.

Are there any diagnostics (like the lights mentioned above) that can be done before I go and buy a power supply?

Apple repair is $90/hour.

Thanks for any help in this hour of need!
