What is the gold stuff on the dock connector?

History

I put a dock connector that was water damaged in 99% alcohol and the gold stuff came off. Is it glue or something important?

check the back of your dock connector flex(the big black flex) that joins the dock onto the main board..it's goldish in colour and may be what you are describing.

This gold stuff" as you refer to is the glue that must have came out between the USB and wire. I would recommend you to use a different cable for a change.
