Will replacing logic board change MEID DEC, etc. number?

My HTC EVO 4g occasionally instantly turns off when I'm using it, even though there is plenty of battery power left. I dropped it on concrete (case opened, battery went flying) a few weeks ago, and I fear I damaged something. I'm thinking of replacing the logic board. However, it seems to me that the phone's identity must be stored on the logic board, as there is no SIM for the EVO. So, if I were to change the logic board, how can I get the phone to work with my current Sprint account?

I see that 4 people claim to have used the "Replace the Logic Board" guide successfully. What did you do with your phone after replacing the logic board?

It could still be your battery. That has happened to me twice because i used a charger that didnt come with the phone and it fried the battery.

After changing the logic board, you will need to activate the "new" phone. You can do this by logging on to Sprints website, and entering the information (ESN/MEID/Etc...) of the new phone. You shouldn't have to worry about any new fees, since you're swapping identical phones. If you have any trouble, you could always take it to a Sprint store and have them activate it there, just make sure you have the ESN/MEID written down somewhere to show them. This also won't reset your contract, as I replaced my HTC Hero with an Evo 9 months ago using this method, and just got an email from Sprint telling me that I'm eligible for a 2-year upgrade.

Based on my experience with Sprint, I'm a little hesitant to do such a thing. They seem very hostile to any end user modifications.

I already had a high-capacity generic ($6 including shipping on Amazon!) on order. So, I thought I would just try replacing the battery first. It's been a couple weeks now, and everything is great. With the new high capacity battery, it's like I have a brand new phone. This is awesome.

FYI, this may be old news for some of you, but Sprint refused to even look at my phone, since I had rooted it. I think that is pretty crappy of them. I realize they can't be responsible for my modifications, but they REFUSED TO EVEN LOOK AT IT. In fact, my problem was completely unrelated, and they never would have had to do anything related to software. They are either looking for excuses to not work on phones, or looking to punish people who root. If I buy a Cadillac, and then put in an aftermarket stereo, GM still honors their powertrain warranty. We as customers are getting totally screwed. I encourage everyone to complain loudly about these fascist policies.
