proximity sensor cable replaced, power button clicks now but...
Hiya,
So I was having the issue where the power button was not clicking at all. So I was pretty confident it was the proximity cable that needed to be replaced (with the orange clicky dome for the power button).
I followed the guide to replace it and after about 4 hours (took me wayyy longer than expected), I have everything put back together.
My power button now clicks like new, but doesnt seem to work. Actually it seems to randomly work, and doesnt seem to matter the amount of pressure I apply when it does work.
Also I think my proximity sensor no longer works but I haven't had a phone call yet to properly test it.
What did I miss in there?? Is it something else entirely?

Good to hear that your power button works again.
The problem with your proximity not working is probably caused by a missing filter on your new flex.
Most flexes nowadays get shipped without this filter. You have to transfer this filter from the old proximity sensor to the new one. That will most certainly do the trick.
Have a look at the following picture:

The part pointed in this picture as proximity sensor is the one you need to be looking at. This particular one is also missing the filter by the way.
Just check your old flex if it has a filter (with a small foam boarder) on it and transfer it to your new one.
Good luck and please let me know if this solved your problem.

When replacing the proximity sensor flex the UV filter and foam is left on the old flex. The iFixit guide does not include the steps to move this filter to the new flex so most people miss it.
If you no longer have the original filter sticker and foam available it is available HERE
You can see the sticker fitted in the attached picture
It is best to remove the screen to fit the sticker from the front.
I was actually told about this little square before I did it, So I did transfer it over from the old one. I never too the front of the phone off like in your picture so maybe I can do it like that to get quicker access to make sure it is in the right position? Going through the whole thing again would take a lot longer then what is shown in this picture potentially?
3 parts to the proximity sensor - the sensor itself, the UV sticker and the screen. If it worked before then the screen is ok. It could either be the sticker isn't fitted properly or that the proximity sensor on the new flex cable is faulty. Yes taking the screen off will take longer than the repair did last time but you'll be able to check it properly. Remember not to lay the mid board flat face down with the screen off as the 3M sticker will pick up dust and dirt. This will be between the mid board and glass after refitting the glass.

UPDATE: It started to work with near 100% certainty! However the proximity sensor is not working in the slightest.
