Top Case Replacement, Keyboard problem?

History

Hi all,

I have a MacBook and the keyboard had a spill so I had to replace the upper case.

I did everything according to the repair tutorial but now only the top keys and caps lock key on my keyboard work and also only part of the keyboard is backlit (middle part).

Thoughts?

Thank you.

You're talking of the new top case including new keyboard in which you swapped your MacBook components in ?

lemerise,

Yes. My keyboard wasn't formerly backlit but I knew that it could be swappable.

I did the same thing on my MacBook and did not run into this problem, I did however had some different keys that didn't work. I reopened the MacBook and unplugged and plugged back in the (I think 3) cables including the track pad. It worked right away. Just a thought.

Tried that many times. I will try doing a fresh OSX install seeing that is what fixed the problem of some of my keys not functioning.

Arkane,

Interesting let me know if that worked.

Dov,

No luck. The keys work perfectly but as for the backlighting, I guess it must be some liquid damaging on my logic board. Will bring it in to Apple and see if they can do anything about it.

I'm about to attempt the same repair. Please keep this updated so that I can know what to do when I attempt my repair.

I have a bit of advice, keep track of your screws and be REALLY careful unplugging and plugging in those tiny tiny cables!

Dov,

It is fairly easy. I kept track of all my screws by placing them in little plastic bags and labelling each one. Also, for the cables with which I've had a bit of difficulty plugging back in, I used tweezers with a little bit of tape at the end to keep the wires safe. Good luck.
