Why is there a line of dead pixels on the LCD?

I have a psp 3000 which has a line of what seems to be "dead pixels" on the LCD. I have no idea what is the cause of it since it was not damaged in anyway. If there is not a fix for it, I am also wondering, do after-market LCDs have the same quality as the original one?
