How to get my itunes to recognize by computer and itunes

Hi got a 30gb ipod video 5th gen . I wanted to add more songs to it but it turns out windows and itunes cant detect it . Got some songs install in it but i can play it . Tried putting it in disk mode(windows cant detect ipod in this mode) ,followed the 5Rs and troubleshoot guide but not successful . Before the ipod encountered this problem i Charged it using a wall charger . I noticed the battery act strangely when using usb charging the next day the battery meter remain the same or increases a little after an hour of charge (the day it cant connect to windows and itunes) . Could it be hard disk issue or logic board . Your help is much appreciated thank you

ilovedrifting, try to place the iPod in diagnostics mode. First you need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check your hold switch is in the off position. You should not see any orange. Toggle it on and off to be safe.Press and hold "Menu" and "Select Center Button" simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. You should hear an audible chirp and the Apple logo will appear backwards. When you get those signs, you are in Diagnostic Mode. It can be a bit tricky and may take you a few times.Once you are in the diagnostics mode, run the tests and see what it comes up with. BTW it might get stuck on the FW test, unless you are using FireWire connection. Pay particular attention to the HDD test. If it all should check out, you will know that you HDD is working. Also remember that the scroll wheel does not work in diagnostics mode, use the buttons to navigate :-)

Check your dock connector, make sure you do not have any bend, corrode, or broken pins. Check your USB port, try to use a different one on your computer, also check the cable make sure that it is functioning.

You can start with replacing the Battery, since it does sound like it did/does give you trouble before getting your error. It will also give you a known good starting place for further trouble shooting. Hope this helps, good luck.
