My Garmin nuvi 255 just doing the same thing as yours. I tried the fix that OLDTURKEY03 suggested, no help. Did yours ever get resolved? If so, how?

Thanks, Bill in MI

Did anyone ever find a solution to this issue. It started when I was in Europe, but still is just cycling now that I am home. I prefer using the Garmin to the GPS on my cell phone.

Ken R, first off, check to see if your Nuvi is one of the once that is affected by the recall. check here to see if it does. the other thing you can try and do is a hard reset. Just remember to save your favorites etc..." - Master Reset on the nuvi® 2xx, 2x5, 465, 5xx, 6xx, 7xx or 1xxx:

Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.

1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power

2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil

3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON

4. Release the power button when the device powers ON

  • You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?

5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays

6. Touch Yes

The device will automatically reset. Please follow the on screen prompts on the nüvi and when completed place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites. there is more info hereand hereas well. Hope this helps to find your way ;-) good luck.

Mine is doing the same thing. I replaced the battery thinking that was the problem but it still does the same thing. The speaker was cutting out prior to this as well. Any ideas on how to fix it. All it does is cycle on to show Garmin on the screen, beeps and shuts down then restarts again doing the same thing over and over.

I'm having same problem with my Garmin 255w and oldturkey03's suggestion didn't work, If I hold the power button I get the small dot that says "press the dot" but when I do no other screen appears. When I plug it in to my computer the Garmin screens load with copyright part then it reboots on and off repeatedly

I'm having the same problem with my Garmin nuvi255w and looks like no answers on this fix yet? Garmin says they won't fix this model so I am looking at Nabilselectronics.com to see if they can help and was wondering if any one else has heard of em?

Has anyone found a solution? I charged my 765 the other day with my Garmin AC charger. After a few hours I checked the screen to see if it displayed charging complete. It did not, and the Nuvi 765 as well as charger were quite warm! Now the 765 only flickers when I try to turn it on. This is very frustrating because the unit has the newest updates, and was working fine before this.

I had the exact same problem, replaced the battery, 3 times as I thought the new batteries might all be duff…..I think the answer is: Never buy Garmin.

I want a Sat-Nav, but one designed so I can easily replace a battery in a battery compartment & I don’t have to void a warrenty or buy a new Sat-Nav every time the battery is exhausted? Are there any such makes out there?
