Nintendo DS Lite Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

Recently bought myself a used Nintendo DS Lite. Had problems at first that it wouldn't turn on. The battery did charge, but when I tried turning it on the green light would just flash for a second and then turn off. After that I opened it up and checked for loose ribbon cables and reconnected all the wires I could. The fuses seemed to be fine aswell. After putting it back together it did turn on.

But now the console sometimes just doesn't turn on after being in working condition a few seconds before. I left it to sit for a bit and then it started working again, but the same problem keeps happening. Same thing happens mid game, it would just crash and won't turn on. No light or anything when I try to turn it on. Also there seemed to be a bit of corrosion near the battery pins in the battery compartment, it looks like a whiteish spot on the case.

I'm looking for help on what to do with it and what the problem might be.

Thanks

Hi!

Just to be sure, did you tried another battery? Because this sound like a battery which is dying. I also recommend to open the DS Lite and remove all of the corrosion. Corrosion can really mess up your device! So clean the motherboard thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. And try again with a new battery!

I don't currently have another battery, but I'm planning on buying one now to check if that's the issue. The corrosion doesn't seem to be spreaded onto the motherboard, only a tiny stain in the battery compartment itself near the pins. Checked all the fuses and they are indeed working, so I'm not sure why the flashing green light issue sometimes comes back, could be the battery though.

Hi! Yeah, then it’s fine indeed as the corrosion is probably on the plastic part! I would try a new battery, sound like this one is causing weird issues so far..

Hey! Just found out that when the DS crashes and won't turn on I have to press onto the bottom part of the shell, just under the right side buttons, and then the DS will turn on when I use the power switch. Do you know what might be the cause of this?

Hi!

That is weird! Well, could be multiple things. What is replaced so far? The lower screen by any chance? Could also be the power switch it self causing it. Could also be a component on the motherboard which is failing.

Hi there!
I have a DS Lite too and sometimes when the game cartilage is faulty the screen would just freeze. Also, if it works when you press the bottom of the casing then it might be a defective motherboard. It might also be a misshaped casing which caused the battery to disconnect with the pins, so when you press the bottom of the casing it would reconnect again. Anyway, I think you should get a new battery and test things first. if you can't get one, try disconnecting the old battery and just use the charger and see if the problem is still there.
